Couple years ago, I developed an OLEDB based streaming data pipeline for a client to integrate OT data from PI system into the cloud. This enabled that client to leverage cloud computing power and apply AI/ML on OT data at a large scale. It’s refreshing to see that Google Cloud and OSIsoft/AVEVA officially released deployment scripts for PI Core on Google Cloud using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with PowerShell and Terraform technologies. These scripts will certainly accelerate an enterprise’s digital transformation initiative.
Having said that, this new deployment scripts utilize PI Integrator for Business Analytics which is licensed based on number of OT data streams. Hence it involves licensing cost that scales. If clients do not have EA or license for PI BI, they can still look into custom OLEDB based streaming solution. But either ways, I am extremely excited to see these steps towards data democracy, cloud infrastructure utilization and automation.
